A NEW GENERATION FOR
BLACK & WHITE
PX 100 SILVER SHADE UV+
Timothy Logan
Let's celebrate the end of this year with the beginning of a new era of black & white photography for SX 70 cameras. Impossible is proud to introduce PX 100 Silver Shade UV+! This innovative film features a new and special UV filter coating which improves the performance of the film's black & white tones, contrast and picture stability. Additionally, the film presents a new negative optimized in many aspects.
The Impossible Pioneers have already had the chance to fill their SX 70 cameras with test film of the new PX 100 Silver Shade UV+. Please enjoy the best 10 test results - we heartily congratulate the Pioneer winners below - and read through all the tips & tricks that our Pioneers discovered to share with you.
Paul A. Rizer
“This film is by far the most "black & white" of Impossible Project's black & white films and it produces beautiful silvery tones. It's a bit tricky to figure out the correct exposure at first, but with a little experimentation, the images are stunning. I used a SX-70 Sonar and turned the L/D wheel 2 notches to dark.” Toby Hancock
“I used, for this shot, an SX70 camera indoors with natural light from the window and I put the L/D wheel to 3/4 to dark. For the first picture I had the L/D wheel in the middle and the picture was totally overexposed.” Andrea Palei
“I really really like the film.” Meghan Davidson “One thing I really loved is the sharpness that the film allows for - used in combination with an SX 70 I had the ability to have a very sharp focus on one subject while maintaining a smooth transition with a shallow depth of field to the out of focus background subjects. I think the film speed itself is actually a touch faster than the advertised 100. I would recommend to readers to compensate slightly with the darken wheel to make up for this in order to maintain a proper exposure.” Timothy Logan
“I used the film with an ND filter in my SX 70 camera and turned the L/D wheel to a lighter setting, which in my opinion delivered the most sharp Silver Shade results ever!” Paul A. Rizer
“In strong light, you will experience wonderful and sharp contrast. In dimmer light with longer exposures, the film will give you a soft and dreamy image.” Thomas Boesgaard
“My best result was obtained photographing the old things in poor light conditions, making long exposures with the camera on a tripod. It's one of the best products of Impossible Project and is now an inseparable tool for most of my next projects.” Gian Guido Zurli
“I loved how much faster the film develops and when shooting in cooler temperature the film is more forgiving than other silver shade film which is a nice surprise.” Kim Oberski
We still note that images develop best when shot at 17-24°C / 63-75°F - when it's much colder make sure to let the image develop close to your body's heat.
“I'm usually much more interested in color film, but PX 100 UV+ might turn me into a black & white shooter.” Jessica Hibbard
“I love the film’s new tone and contrast.” Andrew Millar PX 100 SILVER SHADE UV+
