SUMMER VACATION REPORT
by Marion on PX 70 Color Shade COOL film
Impossible's Online Project Manager Marion Birringer was lucky enough to spend two weeks on the marvellous island of Bali. Due to the fact that we spend all our money on the development of next generation film materials and our Impossible hardware, all our employees agreed to receive films instead of salary. Marion therefore was equipped with several packs of our new COOL PX 70 and PX 100 when travelling to Bali. Please enjoy her travel reports and latest tips & tricks on how to use our film best in tropical climate.

THE ISLAND PARADISE

Small obviously doesn’t mean limited. Bali may be small in size - but with its combination of open-hearted people, a magnificently visual culture, spectacular beaches, rice terraces, volcanoes, uncountably many temples and mesmerising dance performances, it really feels like paradise.

Lucky me! I spent two weeks on the Island of the Gods in June - equipped with my adored SX-70 Sonar and loads of our new Impossible Cool films to capture all fabulous and colorful aspects.

TRAVEL HIGHLIGHTS

Daily life in Bali is permeated with it's Hindu religion: temples, statues of deities - the most visible signs are the tiny offerings ("canning sari") found everywhere. These leaf trays contain an enormous range of offering items: flowers, rice, cookies, salt, and even cigarettes and coffee!

The island is also blessed with a beautiful nature. Volcanic mountains crown the center of Bali, the sacred abode of the gods and the goddesses. Green forests with waterfalls - and flowers at every turn. Not forgetting all the delightful animals I was able to meet within one's grasp, sometimes a bit too close for my taste ;) - like monkeys, sea snakes, megabats, lizards, elephants and dolphins.

When in Bali, do as the Balinese do!
So I visited a typical market, offering a variety of Indonesian spices, rice, fruits, fish, crabs, birds and much more!

SHOOTING IMPOSSIBLE IN TROPICAL CLIMATE
  • COOL film is meant to be stored cool for best results (thanks, mini bar), but once out for shooting, I just left the camera and the films in my bag (without cooling) to minimize direct sun.
Read more from Dr. Love HERE

  • I avoided to shoot at noon (the bright overhead sun can create too-bright highlights and dark shadows) - just waited for the golden hour

  • Perfect Shielding! Learn more HERE

  • Especially for the blue tones (sea, heaven) I turned the L/D-wheel 2/3 to dark

  • Best storage for Impossible Silver Shades (primarily in tropical, humid climate): IMPOSSIBLE DRY AGE KIT

Grab some film & enjoy shooting this summer!
