SIMPLY IMPOSSIBLE
BOOKS
From its beginning in 2008, the Impossible Project has been a wild roller coaster ride between analog heaven and instant hell. One of the most important aspects that kept our engines running, recharged our batteries on a daily basis and made us stand proud and strong are the endless amount of simply breathtaking images taken by photographers all over the world.
It is our true pleasure and honor to present the following brand new publications, fine manifestations of various artistic minds and ventures, celebrating Impossible possibilities, embedded in strong creative concepts. TRACES OF TIME
A PHOTOGRAPHIC JOURNEY WITH THE AFGHAN PAMIRIS
“There was something extremely precious in the way they were holding the image, in the way they wanted to get it as soon as it got out of the camera, it was both the gift and the interaction. It was a picture of themselves but also a souvenir of our encounter. Often it was the first picture they received in their lives. That was the starting point. Then we realized that by their holding the photos, the notion of time was specifically framed within that experience.”
- Fabrice Nadjari & Varial
“Traces of Time” showcases the instant portraits taken by childhood friends and photographers Fabrice Nadjari and Varial. During summer 2011 they traveled by foot to the remote Wakhan Corridor in the North-Eastern part of Afghanistan, meeting children, housewives, opium smokers, village chiefs and peasants, all lending themselves to this ceremonious collection of Impossible instant pictures.

FROM POLAROID TO IMPOSSIBLE
MASTERPIECES OF INSTANT PHOTOGRAPHY
“Ultimately, photography has never been a question of technology alone; it has always been a cultural phenomena. By taking photographs, by representing our lives, we appropriate the world in which we live and make it our own. And today and tomorrow, that cannot and will not be less exciting or important than it was a hundred years ago, when photography first began to be a means of expression and a medium for everyone. The Impossible Project is preserving for the world the ability to have an ultra-analog, completely manifest experience of the photograph-in-a-moment. The aura of the Impossible original has inspired and will continue to inspire many artists.”
- Achim Heine, Editor
Revised second edition of this popular bi-lingual (English/German) catalogue, printed by esteemed German publisher Hatje Cantz, presenting the highlights of the European Polaroid Collection along with new Impossible artworks by contemporary photographers, with introductory texts by Achim Heine, Barbara Hitchcock and Florian Kaps. Created on the occasion of the POLAROID (IM)POSSIBLE exhibition last summer in Westlicht Vienna, which is now again on display at the NRW-Forum Kultur und Wirtschaft in Düsseldorf, Germany.
