From its beginning in 2008, the Impossible Project has been a wild roller coaster ride between analog heaven and instant hell. One of the most important aspects that kept our engines running, recharged our batteries on a daily basis and made us stand proud and strong are the endless amount of simply breathtaking images taken by photographers all over the world.

TRACES OF TIME

A PHOTOGRAPHIC JOURNEY WITH THE AFGHAN PAMIRIS

“Traces of Time” showcases the instant portraits taken by childhood friends and photographers Fabrice Nadjari and Varial. During summer 2011 they traveled by foot to the remote Wakhan Corridor in the North-Eastern part of Afghanistan, meeting children, housewives, opium smokers, village chiefs and peasants, all lending themselves to this ceremonious collection of Impossible instant pictures.

GLOWING ENIGMAS

“Despite all fears one might be confronted with when going forward, David Sylvian always kept on trying to express his world as an artist. The reason that his works are still shining after the long time is coming from his passion and efforts.
David has been experimenting with Vintage Polaroid Cameras in the 80s, now he met with the new generation of Impossible instant film. With glowing enigmas he created his first photo exhibition, finding Impossible film to be the best match for his recent expression.”

In 1974 David Sylvian become popular with the pop band “Japan”, but art installations have alleys been an important aspect of David's work. In his twenties David started using instant film, his Polaroid collage “Perspectives” was published in 1984 with exhibitions in London, Tokyo, Zurich and Milan. “glowing enigmas” is David's first work created entirely on Impossible instant film. An exhibition presented at the Impossible Project Space Tokyo featured 141 Impossible photographs by David Sylvain, this book presents a careful selection of his analog artworks.

Created on the occasion of the POLAROID (IM)POSSIBLE exhibition last summer in Westlicht Vienna, which is now again on display at the NRW-Forum Kultur und Wirtschaft in Düsseldorf, Germany.
